Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
More than 200 deaths every year within North America are a result of forklifts, or lift trucks. Correct inspection and maintenance of lift truck tires can really help to reduce the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Check
Before the start of each shift, the tires on the lift truck must be inspected for signs of damage and wear. The air pressure inside the tires needs to be checked to ensure the pressure is not very low. Having a tire pressure which is low could make the machinery prone to tip-overs while lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The selection of tire type should be based on the kind of surface wherein the lift truck will be used. For indoor use, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are best. For smoother surfaces, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires can grip well on surfaces which are rough because they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other Considerations
Any lift truck used on a continual basis should be checked at the completion of each shift, based on Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines. The tires must be inspected once more for any sign of damage, such as cuts or wear.

Forklift Safety
If you or your employees would be utilizing forklifts, proper training in lift truck safety is important. Lift truck accidents can cause serious personal injuries or death and lead to unmanageable financial hardship. Even minor accidents could cost you and your company money if the forklift or the goods are damaged in a mishap. Be certain you are well informed concerning forklift safety problems.
