History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machinery. During the year 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years.
