Kinds of Aisles
Lift trucks are classified due to the types of aisles they have been designed to work in. Wide Aisle and Narrow Aisle lift trucks are designed to turn in the aisle, whereas Very Narrow Aisle trucks really don't turn in the aisle. There are certain aisle widths to consider with different units.
Very Narrow Aisle or VNA trucks work in less than 6 feet areas and often use specific guidance systems like wire, optical or rail systems in order to travel in the aisles. Some different models of VNA trucks include Swing Masts, Order Selectors and Turret Trucks. These are popular kinds in compact retail spaces and in several storage and warehouse situations.
Narrow Aisle trucks could operate in aisles from 8 feet to 10 feet wide. Usually these are stand-up units like Reach Trucks. They are usually used in storage facilities and warehouses.
The wide aisle forklift is designed to work in aisles more than 8 feet to 10 feet.
